"Prayer Service for Christian Unity"

January 18, 2017

The Capital Region Ecumenical Organization will sponsor an ecumenical prayer service on Wednesday, January 18, in celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It will be from Noon to 12:30 p.m. at the Roman Catholic Diocese offices at 40 North Main St., Albany.

Theme for the service is "Reconciliation--the Love of Christ Compels Us," based on 2 Corinthians 5:14-20.  Rev. Eleanor Stanton, Ecumenical Officer for the United Church of Christ, will preside. The message will be given by Ian Leet, Ecumenical Officer for the Reformed Church in America. All are welcome to attend.

The Capital Region Ecumenical Organization exists to promote the gift of visible unity offered by Jesus Christ, doing so by strengthening communication, promoting community and engaging in mission among various Christian traditions, while seeking partnerships for action with other faith traditions. 

Who We Are

 

The Capital Region Ecumenical Organization (CREO) is a 501c.3 organization that encompasses eight Christian expressions of faith.

 

They are:

  • American Baptist Churches USA

  • Episcopal Church of America

  • Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

  • Presbyterian Church (USA)

  • Reformed Church in America

  • Roman Catholic Church

  • United Church of Christ

  • United Methodist Church

 

It also includes representatives of five organizations that provide ecumenical and interfaith ministries in the Capital Region.

 

They are the:

  • Capital Area Council of Churches (CACC)

  • FOCUS Churches of Albany (FOCUS)

  • Schenectady Inner-City Ministries (SICM)

  • Troy Area United Ministries (TAUM)

  • Albany United Methodist Society (AUMS)

How We Operate

 

Each of the eight churches that are members of CREO names a Judicatory Executive (JE) and an Ecumenical Officer (EO) to represent them.

 

 

Judicatory Executives

The Judicatory Executives meet together periodically to discuss mutual concerns and ways to share ministries. They represent CREO to their church governments.
